Commenting on homicide statistics released by the Scottish Government today, Liberal Democrat Justice spokesman Robert Brown said:
"It's clear that a combination of effective community policing and targeted work to break down gangs and tackle knife crime is being successful.
"Now is the time to redouble our efforts to make sure in particular that people who have been convicted of crimes of violence do not offend again. That means properly resourced community sentences which pay back the community and tackle the causes of offending.
"It's certainly no time for Tory dithering. They are adopting sensible policies under Liberal Democrat influences in England whilst still pushing hard line rhetoric in Scotland, which everyone knows does not work."
